Eric Phung is a 1L ChangeLawyer at Stanford Law School. The son of Vietnamese refugees, Eric is a first-generation college student and the first in his family to pursue a graduate degree. Having grown up low-income in East Oakland, he has seen the devastating consequences of decades of state supported segregation and disinvestment. But he has also been inspired by how a community can organize together in radical resilience, hope, and solidarity to create a more just world. He hopes to use law degree to work on issues of housing and criminal justice. Throughout law school, he plans to gain direct legal service experience by participating in immigration and public defenders' clinics. After graduation, he plans to re-establish himself as a part of the Oakland community and bring his newfound legal knowledge and network to empower and uplift his community.
