Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Susana is a first-generation law student whose own experience in the foster care system sparked her interest in becoming a lawyer. Daughter to immigrant parents, Susana experienced financial hardships and frequently experienced homelessness. During her adolescence, she lost her father to gang violence and soon found herself in the foster care system. She eventually moved out on her own and became the first in her family to graduate high school. She began her higher education at East Los Angeles Community College and later transferred to the University of California, Berkeley where she double majored in Psychology and Legal Studies and received her minor in Education. After law school, she plans to advocate for the rights of children who have been ignored or mistreated by the foster care system and the juvenile justice system. Susana is currently pursuing her JD as 1L ChangeLawyer at Berkeley Law.
