Victor Escobar is a former undocumented immigrant and was placed in deportation proceedings in 2009 during the week of his college graduation. After a seven year fight, he eventually won his immigration case and adjusted his status. Empowered by the newly available student loans and as a recipient of the California ChangeLawyers 1L Diversity Scholarship, he was readmitted to UC Hastings Law College of the Law in 2016. During law school, Victor interned with the Immigration Unit at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, where helped a fellow immigrant win his case, avert deportation, and secure a work permit. Victor also enrolled at Hastings' Criminal Law Practice Clinic where he witnessed the oppressive nature of our criminal law system. Victor is a ChangeLawyer who believes that a deeper understanding of criminal law coupled with his personal experience will help him become a better advocate for immigrant clients, especially the Spanish speaking immigrant community. He aspires to practice crimmigration law, focusing on the intersection criminal and immigration law. Victor is beginning his legal career as a clerk at the Contra Costa Public Defender's Office.
